The disciples of Christ hold marriage high. You should not enter into it lightly. You should not untie the knot for any reason. Everyday we ought to strengthen the bond.
How?
We remove what injures—if the eyes causes you to sin, pluck it out. If our hand causes you to sin, cut it off. Don’t do that literally, nevertheless, do what is needed. Kill the sin before it kills you and your marriage. May we all note the words of Richard Baxter: “The longer you delay, the more your sin gets strength and rooting. If you cannot bend a twig, how will you be able to bend it when it is a tree? If you cannot pluck up a tender plant, are you likely to pluck up a sturdy oak?” Or, as George Swinnock wrote, “The ship that leaks is more easily emptied at the beginning than afterwards;”
We adopt what heals and makes strong. Pastor Joel Beeke writes that the strongest marriages are those which cultivate a deeply rooted friendship.
